I can't believe it's already over a week since I went to see Ed Sheeran in Croke park...where does time go?? I had been looking forward to seeing him in concert again ever since the first time I saw him live, last October; It was an incredible show and this one was much the same. Incredible. Ed never fails to impress me.
I am definitely a lover of concerts; they are quite the magical experience in my opinion. Huge numbers of people all gathered together in the same place; and all, for those few hours, happy and united by their love of music. I'll never get tired of that feeling of togetherness I feel at concerts. On this night we were all united by our love of the beautiful music created by one ginger, his guitar and a loop pedal; and wow can he put on a show. Definitely adding this experience to one of my best.
The concert took place in Croke park, Dublin; where he entertained 80,000 people. It was his first time playing Croke park, which was a lot bigger and exposed than his usual closed arena setting. Personally I preferred seeing him in the smaller venue of an arena, as we were all a lot more connected to him, since he was a lot closer to us; making the sound and atmosphere even more amazing. Although, he still did an incredible job at filling that stadium and making it an unforgettable night for everyone there. He played a mixture of old and more recent songs and also performed quite a few mash-ups. It was a great night all-round.
The first act of the night, supporting Ed, was Jamie Lawson. He was the first singer-songwriter signed to Ed's label "Gingerbread Man Records". He did a great job performing and warming up the crowd. Jamie also has some great songs, including "Wasn't expecting that" which I really like.
'Bell X1' also supported Ed that night. They are an Irish band and their style is quite unique. Their songs are quirky with unusual lyrics; I'm pretty sure they were singing about "velcro" at one point. Personally I don't think I'd get into their music, but they put on a great performance and they sounded good too.
The night I went to see Ed, it was his second night playing here. On the first night Gavin James was the support act, instead of Jamie Lawson. I didn't know before I went that Gavin James was only playing the first night, so thinking I was going to see him, I started listening to his music about two days before the concert to familiarize myself with his songs- I find concerts to be more enjoyable when you know some of the support act's songs. Over a week later and many, many hours of listening to his songs on repeat, he is easily one of my favourite artists. I was definitely disappointed when I found out he wasn't one of the support acts for the night, but thankfully he made an appearance for one song. If you're reading this post seriously go check out Gavin James' music; it's great!
'Kodaline', a famous Irish band, also made a surprise appearance and sang "All I want", probably my favourite one of their songs - it never fails to make me emotional. I love Kodaline and I was really happy they made an appearance. I'd also recommend listening to their songs btw. To make the night even more special, Jason Boland, a member of the band, proposed to his girlfriend Etaoin Corr; on-stage after performing. I mean how cute is that? <3
Glen Hansard, Irish singer-songwriter, guitarist for 'The Frames', actor, and half of the duo 'The Swell Season' also came out and performed on-stage with Ed and Kodaline. They Played some traditional Irish songs, which created a great buzz in the crowds; everyone seemed to really love it!
It was a fun-filled, amazing night overall and I'm just so grateful that I could experience it!
What is your favourite concert memory?
I like the time I went to see Taylor Swift with some cool gals and we all cried. Also went to see All Time Low and felt suffocated for the whole thing but it was fab also with some funky chicks lol x
